Comprehensive Certified Driver Evaluation

A Holistic Approach to Driver Safety and Independence

At West Metro Driving School, we offer an evaluation that goes beyond basic driving skills. Our assessment includes a detailed health questionnaire, clinical evaluation, medication review, and a Behind-The-Wheel performance assessment. This thorough approach allows us to gain a complete understanding of each driver’s abilities and challenges.

Tailored Solutions for Every Driver

Based on the evaluation results, we develop personalized recommendations. These may include customized refresher courses to sharpen driving skills or suggestions for vehicle modifications. In cases where driving may no longer be the safest option, we provide valuable information on driving retirement and alternative transportation methods, ensuring continued independence and mobility.

Peace of Mind for Families and Healthcare Providers

Our evaluations offer peace of mind to families, knowing that a trained professional has thoroughly assessed their loved one’s driving abilities. This often allows older drivers to continue driving safely for many years. Additionally, healthcare providers can confidently use our evaluation results when counseling patients who have reached an advanced age or are recovering from physical injuries or surgeries.

Our Unique Seven-Point Evaluation

What sets our evaluation apart is our holistic approach. We address seven critical areas that may affect driving ability: Historical, Mental, Physical, Spiritual, Financial, Social, and Future considerations. This comprehensive view ensures we capture a complete picture of each driver’s unique situation, leading to more accurate and helpful recommendations.

Where Your Evaluation Takes Place

Our flexible approach ensures a thorough and relevant assessment of your driving abilities.

Our Certified Older Driver Evaluation is designed to assess your skills in familiar and relevant environments. The process is divided into two key parts:

Clinical Evaluation

We begin with a thorough clinical assessment conducted at a Rehab Outpatient Clinic conveniently located near you.

This portion of the evaluation focuses on physical and cognitive abilities essential for safe driving.

Behind-the-Wheel Assessment

For the practical driving evaluation, we offer two options:

  • A comprehensive route designed by our Driving School to assess various driving scenarios.

  • Familiar routes you frequently drive, such as trips to the grocery store, pharmacy, or local destinations. This allows us to evaluate your skills in your typical driving environment.

How much does the Evaluation Cost?

The driver evaluation costs $297. There is also a clinical component that is typically covered by insurance.

Other Questions ...?

The evaluation results are shared only with individuals you specifically authorize. Typically, this includes physicians and adult children.

No. We do not make referrals to the Georgia Department of Driver Services that could result in license suspension, cancellation, or revocation.

The evaluation is administered in 3 parts by state-certified personnel:

  1. Health Questionnaires: Completed at home.
  2. Clinical Evaluation: Performed by a licensed Occupational or Physical Therapist, or another qualified professional.
  3. Functional Behind-the-Wheel evaluation: Conducted by a certified driving instructor.

All evaluations are conducted in West Metro Driving School’s vehicles. We maintain a fleet of late-model Toyota Corollas.

For drivers with conditions like Dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, or Macular degeneration, we recommend evaluations every 6 months. More frequent evaluations may be needed if circumstances change.

We offer evaluations Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4 pm, by appointment only. Call 770-443-1644 to schedule.

The evaluation has two parts:

  1. An in-office interview and clinical evaluation
  2. A behind-the-wheel evaluation

See the Where Your Evaluation Takes Place section for more information. Specific locations will be provided when you schedule your appointment.
