What is Joshua’s Law?
Joshua’s Law requires teens who are seeking their initial Class-D drivers license to complete an approved Drivers Education course in the State of Georgia. This requirement came into effect in 2007.

How can I satisfy my students Joshua’s Law requirements?
There are two methods of completing a Joshua’s Law course:
30-Hour Joshua’s Law Course + Parent Teen Driving Guide
1
A student can complete a 30-hour Joshua’s Law course, followed by the completion of the Parent Teen Driving Guide, as well as a notarized, detailed 40-hour driving log. This completes the basic requirements of Joshua’s law without the discounts and savings of a traditional course.
Our 30-hour Joshua’s Law course includes the State required Alcohol and Drug Awareness Program. This has been incorporated into the drug and alcohol unit of Joshua’s Law and requires no additional obligation from parents or students.
30-Hour Joshua’s Law Course (Only Classroom): $135
Discounts/Savings:
- Requires additional 6-hours of behind the wheel instruction.
30-Hour Joshua’s Law Course + 6 Hours of Behind the Wheel

2
A student can complete a 30-hour Joshua’s Law course followed by 6-hours of behind the wheel instruction in a school vehicle, one-on-one with a State licensed driving instructor. The 6-hours of behind the wheel driving replaces the Parent Teen Driving Guide, and while the student still needs 40 hours of supervised driving with a parent, they no longer need a notarized, detailed driving log.
This method makes the student eligible for a 10% insurance reduction from their insurance premiums, as well as a $150 tax credit back from the State of Georgia.
30/6 Drivers Education Course: $450
Discounts/Savings:
- $150 State Tax Credit
- 10% Off Insurance Premiums
With the tax credit and insurance discounts, this option pays for itself within 6-8 months for most families after adding a teen driver to their insurance policy.
Some reasons to learn with West Metro Driving School
With a max class size of 23, West Metro Driving School has a more personalized, comfortable atmosphere. While others may have classes with 40, 50 or even more students per class, we believe that would take advantage of the trust parents put in our school to do one thing: provide excellent drivers education.
Snacks and drinks are essential keeping your student alert and engaged while learning. At West Metro, we offer a large variety of snacks and drinks for all students to help themselves to during our classes. There are no vending machines in or around our classroom.
During behind the wheel driving instruction, our instructors will come to your home to pick up your student and drop them off. You will not need to meet the instructor somewhere to start your student’s behind the wheel instruction.
The best way to learn to drive is when a student applies the information they have learned in the classroom to hands-on experience. For this reason, West Metro Driving School does not offer round-robin driving or group driving. Round robin or group driving when one student drives while others observe the student driving, and partial-credit is given to the students who observe. All of our instruction is done one-on-one with your student and a State licensed driving instructor.
The experience that driving on local streets and highways gives is invaluable for your student. For that reason, we limit “cone” instruction to parking only, and seek to have your student on the road as much as possible. Your student will not be driving on a simulated cone-course pretending they are on actual roads.
West Metro Driving School has a team of friendly staff that will help you pinpoint the most effective way for your student to learn to drive. We treat all our customers, parents and students, with respect and understanding. If you have a unique situation, try us: we are a creative school that can think outside of the box for you.
To get registered, parents and students can stop by the school office in-person or by phone at 770-443-1644, Monday-Friday, 10AM-6PM.
